My name is Maria and I am the owner of Save the Bees Flower Co, a little urban flower farm in Lehi Utah.
I often get asked how I started growing cut flowers in Utah and the answer is pretty simple. I’ve always had an interest in floral design, but did not have a lot of opportunities to pursue it between my degree at BYU and starting my young family.
We bought our first home in 2017 and it came with a giant yard and a derelict garden space. I started dreaming about what I could plant in that space and had the thought to plant cut flowers to explore my interest in floral design from the ground up.
At first, I didn’t know if growing beautiful, bouquet-worthy blooms was possible here in Utah. However, after years of research and jumping in with both feet, I discovered that Utah CAN grow gorgeous cut flowers.
Peonies, tulips, ranunculi, snapdragons, hellebore, dahlias, sweetpeas and more grow happily here along the Wasatch Front!
I am now a budding farmer-florist specializing in whimisical, garden-style arrangements for CSA members and Utah brides.
I also share my love for growing cut flowers by teaching workshops at Thanksgiving Point.
My dream is to see fields of flowers growing along our beautiful Utah mountains someday.
Although I will never expand to a full size farm, I beleive the more flowers in Utah the better. Better for our declining pollinator community. Better for our food crops. And better for our floral industry.
